According to the owners,
Our
cabin has some unique features. It certainly is not for everybody. It is off the grid, isolated, secluded, close to deep wilderness.
There are four season attractions to the cabin. In the summer it is a cool retreat even on the hottest days. A place to relax
in complete quiet during the day and to star gaze like nowhere else, (the nearest incandescent light is miles away). The Fall
is everything in Vermont - and Fall is truly magnified because you are so deep into the middle of the colors, surrounded
by the sights, smells, sounds of Fall. You retreat into the cozy cabin in the evening with a warm wood fire. Waking up at
the cabin on a cool crisp morning is unforgettable. Winter at the cabin is a real test of your character and courage. Everything
you take for granted in your everyday life is tested. All forms of water are frozen. The cabin starts at a temperature
at or below the ambient temperature. Within minutes the woodstove warms the cabin to a tolerable temperature. By the first
hour the winter wear is shed and you settle in for a winter adventure. You fire up the generator, heat up some water, and
start to work on your gourmet meal. You need to be mindful of your wood supply, water supply, and all of your provisions.
Being right on a major VAST trail makes snowmobiling in and out quite easy but for years we hiked in with sleds the ¾
mile from the main road. Spring comes late but brings a welcome transformation to the land. This property would be best
suited to a group from "down country" that might want shared ownership, that is interested in four season adventure,
that doesn’t need automatic heat, hot water, or turn-key amenities.' You'll enjoy the
rustic charm of this log cabin that has a wrap-around porch to watch the wildlife. The camp is all wired for a generator
(bring your own) and while there is a septic system for the indoor flush toilet, the owners bring their own water
from home for drinking/cooking and they collect rainwater to use to flush. There is a site on the land where a
spring which could potentially be developed if you want to have an on-site water supply. While the Town of Walden
has no zoning, water and septic are governed by State Wastewater and Potable Water Rules.
There's an
older LP gas range for cooking plus a woodstove. No refrigerator - the owners use coolers when they're at camp. You
could of course bring an LP gas refrigerator and you'll be all set.
A cast iron spiral staircase brings you
upstairs to four bedrooms. The downstairs, with the exception of the bathroom, is all open-concept kitchen/living/dining.
You'll walk in and say 'wow' - and we're sure it will be love at first sight.
You'll
also be very close by to Coles Pond with a town owned beach and boat launching area. Enjoy good fishing and kayaking
on Coles Pond and it's only about 2 miles from your camp. Caspian Lake in Greensboro, which is known for trophy
sized lake trout is just a few minutes drive as well.
Escape from the phone, noise, light pollution
and traffic. Wooded privacy, and just a short walk to Steam Mill Brook Wildlife Management Area with nearly 10,000 acres
of F&W land to hunt, hike, explore.
